Stella by Jo Gamel
Stella by Jo Gamel is an oil on canvas painting that is oval and 12×16”, unframed but with the sides finished and painted a bright red. Shipping is a separate charge.
In the words of the artist:
“Stella is a polychromatic still life oil painting depicting a composition of assembled intimate souvenirs of maidenhood, each transformed into a charged emblem of possibility, memory, and wonder. At its center, a vessel hovers between reliquary and celestial body, an object both earthly and transcendent, like a shooting star that never descends and remains in the heavens. Surrounding it, sand dollars and a clam shell recalled the restorative nature of salt water; the clam itself evokes the necessary necessity of both openness and closure in order to swim through life. A rainbow quartz crystal refracts clarity into the spectrum of twilight, a liminal zone where color bends toward the unreal and the spellbinding. Stella is the name given to the star who remains above.”
