A Myth of Fundy Bay by Carl J Solberg
A Myth of Fundy Bay by Carl J Solberg is a 3-D sculpture that is made of sculpted aged, spalted Chestnut slab – out of found original timber log from the Coast of the Gulf of Maine – on a Platform of Black Cherry and Mahogany starfish. It is 64 inches Long X 14 inches High X 14 inches deep – to match the scale of the delightful Harbor Seal. Work is an unframed sculpture and is viewed in 360 degrees. Artist will happily deliver within 200 miles NYC.
In the words of the artist:
“When I see harbor seals emerge in the gulf of Maine, alongside my boat, they regard my craft and I with a beautiful openness. I am aware of a sense of the female in that look. Among the mythologies and dreams of the Sea, we want to believe in the power of the feminine manifesting in the form of the secret Sea Maiden. An old wisdom tells us there are secrets and mysteries deep in the sea. I want to believe that until the sounds of struggling mariners awaken her to their aid, she sleeps in her enchantment among the innocent residents of the bottom of the sea.”
